Laissez Les Bon Temps, Rouler!

It's Mardi Gras time ya'll! I love the glitz and glamour of Mardi Gras. The bright colors, the glitter, the amazing food and especially the Jazz music. I generally decorate my entire house for Mardi Gras and invite some friends over for some New Orleans cuisine and drinks but this year that isn't possible. Mardi Gras amidst a pandemic is tough. Never fear my Mardi Gras loving friends - I have a solution!!

Here at PaperSmith Handmade we have created an at home Mardi Gras Party Kit for you and your family to enjoy. Yes, you read that correctly! You can have your own Mardi Gras party at home with your loved ones. The kits include DIY decor, DIY masks, games, and more! I will be posting a video later this afternoon to show you everything in detail with more information. I was going to wait until then to mention it, but I'm so excited I just couldn't wait! Ok, let's move on to today's craft...

Today we are making a Mardi Gras centerpiece for your table. I made a few of these last Mardi Gras and decided this year I needed one more because I moved where I was putting them and it just didn't look right with only three. This craft is MESSY, but so fun. At the mention of glitter, Addie came running, so this centerpiece was created by her!

Materials Needed:

- a disposable tablecloth- I highly recommend this because it makes clean up much easier!

- spray adhesive - as mentioned in previous posts this is also messy and gloves are recommended

- GLITTER in either purple, gold, green, or all three

- an empty wine bottle ( it's a pandemic folks, we have plenty of those lying around!)

Ok, so first step is to cover your works space with the table cloth or paper. This is going to prevent the adhesive from getting on your table as well as make the glitter easier to clean up.

Next, you will want to lay your bottle down on the table. I don't bother removing the label from the bottle because you won't even notice it's there once it's covered, and let's be honest, it's also a pain.

Spray the area of your bottle that is facing up with the spray adhesive (as shown above). You will want to soak it so that as much glitter as possible stays on the bottle.

Now you can begin sprinkling your glitter on your bottle! Addie and I had fun with this and even tried a slow motion video, because who doesn't love to watch glitter fall? Disclaimer- I am not a videographer😂

Once you've applied the glitter to that part of your bottle you will want to carefully stand it up and let the excess glitter fall off of the bottle. We did this by placing a finger in the opening of the bottle so we didn't touch it but please do so with caution- I would hate to hear someone got their finger stuck in the bottle!

Let the bottle sit for a few minutes and then roll to where there is no glitter showing on the bottle. Now you can repeat the previous steps until your entire bottle is covered. Easy, right?

I used some festive Mardi Gras picks that I found at Michaels last year to fill my bottles as well as some additional centerpiece picks I created myself. This year the bottles sit on our buffet in the dining room and I just love how they look!

Check our Instagram and Facebook pages this afternoon for more information on the Mardi Gras Party Kits as well as an opportunity to win a handmade Mardi Gras Wreath!! Also, on Valentine's Day the kids and I will be making TWO King Cakes and will be sharing the recipe and video with you. I've been making these every year for the past few years and they are delicious!
